How do I become a Kela affiliate?

Fill in the application form on this site. It takes about five minutes and has four short steps: your details, where your audience is, how you plan to promote Kela, and then creating your login. Once you submit, our team reviews it and emails you the decision.

What are the requirements to join?

You need to be in Uganda, have a phone number we can reach you on, and have some kind of audience — a social media following, a WhatsApp group, a church or community group, a hostel or campus circle, or simply people who ask you where to buy things. There is no minimum follower count and it costs nothing to join.

How long does approval take?

Most applications are reviewed within 48 hours. You will get an email either way. Until you are approved you can log in, but you will only see a short 'under review' screen instead of the dashboard.

What happens if my application is rejected?

We email you the reason. When you log in you will also see that same reason on your screen. Common reasons are an incomplete application, an audience we could not verify, or details that did not match up.

Can I reapply if I am rejected?

Yes. You can apply again after 30 days. Use that time to fix whatever was raised in the rejection reason — for example adding a real profile link or describing your audience properly — and your next application has a much better chance.

How does referral tracking work?

You get one personal code, something like MARY@47, and one link that carries it: shopkela.com/signup?ref=YOURCODE. When someone signs up through that link, or types your code during signup, Kela records that they came from you. That is the whole system — one code, one link.

Question 7

What if someone clicks my link but signs up later?

They can still count for you, as long as your code is on their signup. If they come back later on their own, they can type your code in the referral field at signup. That is why it is worth sharing the code as text too, not only the link.

How long does my referral link stay active after someone clicks it?

Your link never expires — it is tied to your account, not to a session. What matters is that your code is attached at the moment they create their Kela account. If they create the account without your code, it cannot be added to you afterwards.

What is a successful referral?

Accepted Answer

A referral pays when all of this is true: the person is completely new to Kela, they signed up with your link or code, they verified their email, and their first order was actually delivered by Kela Crew. Cancelled, refunded and undelivered orders never pay.

Does it matter which device the person uses to sign up?

Accepted Answer

No. Phone, laptop, someone else's phone — it makes no difference, because tracking follows your code and not the device. As long as your code is on their signup, the referral is yours.

How much do I earn per referral?

It depends on your tier: UGX 1,200 at Bronze, UGX 1,400 at Silver, UGX 1,600 at Gold and UGX 2,000 at Platinum, for every successful referral. Your current rate is always shown on your dashboard.

When can I request a payout?

As soon as you have an available balance. Money moves into your available balance once the referred customer's first order has been delivered and the referral has cleared our checks.

What is the minimum payout amount?

There is no fixed minimum beyond having a positive available balance — you can withdraw whatever has cleared. Most affiliates wait until a few referrals have cleared so the transfer is worth the trip.

How are payouts made?

To MTN Mobile Money, Airtel Money, or a bank account. You choose the method and give us the number or account when you request the payout, so you can change it any time.

How long do payouts take to arrive?

Usually 24 to 48 hours from when you request. Requests made on a weekend or public holiday are processed on the next working day.

Why has my payout not arrived?

The usual reasons are: the 24–48 hour window has not passed yet; the mobile money number or bank account was typed wrongly; or the number is not registered in the name we have. Check the payout status on your dashboard first — if it says failed, the reason is shown there. If it still looks stuck, contact us with the payout date and amount.

What are the different tiers?

There are four. Bronze covers your first 20 successful referrals at UGX 1,200 each. Silver covers referrals 21 to 100 at UGX 1,400. Gold covers 101 to 500 at UGX 1,600. Platinum is anything above 500 at UGX 2,000.

How do I move up to a higher tier?

Automatically, by getting more successful referrals. The moment you cross a threshold you move up, your new rate applies from the very next referral, and we send you a congratulations message in your dashboard and by email.

Are my past commissions affected when I move to a higher tier?

Accepted Answer

No, and this works both ways. Tier progression is never retroactive. If you earned your first 20 referrals at UGX 1,200 each, those stay at UGX 1,200 forever. Your earnings history permanently shows the tier and rate that applied to each single referral.

Can my tier go down?

Accepted Answer

No. Your tier is based on the total number of successful referrals you have ever earned, so it only moves in one direction. The only exception is if commissions are reversed for fraud, which reduces the count they were based on.

Can I refer myself?

Accepted Answer

No. Signing up as a Kela customer with your own code earns nothing and does not count towards your referral total. Our system detects it automatically.

Can I create multiple accounts?

Accepted Answer

No. One person, one affiliate account. Creating extra accounts to refer yourself or to move referrals around is treated as fraud and can get all the accounts suspended and the commissions reversed.

What happens if I break the rules?

Accepted Answer

Depending on what happened, the referral is rejected, the commission is reversed, or your account is suspended with a reason you can see when you log in. A suspended account earns nothing and accumulates no referrals while it is suspended.

Why was my commission not counted for a particular referral?

Accepted Answer

The usual reasons are: the person already had a Kela account before, they used someone else's code first, they never verified their email, or their first order was cancelled, refunded or never delivered. Each customer can only ever generate one commission, for one affiliate, program-wide.

Question 25

Can reversed commissions be appealed?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Every reversal comes with a written reason, shown in your earnings history and sent to you by email. If you believe it was a mistake, reply to that email or use the contact form with the date and amount, and an admin will review it. Genuine false positives are cleared and the commission is restored.
